About Sam & Max: Hit The Road Floppy
Sam and Max Hit the Road is a graphic adventure game released for MS-DOS in 1993. Developed and published by LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC, it is a point and click adventure that incorporates puzzle elements. The game presents its story and environments from a side view perspective.
Players control Sam, a canine detective, as he investigates a case involving a missing circus performer and a kidnapped bigfoot. The character Max, Sam's rabbit-like partner, follows along and can be used as an inventory item. Gameplay involves directing Sam around the screen to examine objects, initiate conversations, and use collected items on the environment. Progress is made by solving puzzles to uncover clues, which in turn unlocks new locations across a map of the United States. Travel between these areas is managed by using car keys on the detectives' vehicle.
The game uses an icon based interface for interactions, replacing the text verb system seen in earlier adventures. Conversations allow players to select topics for Sam to discuss, including questions about specific people, places, or objects discovered during the investigation. Several optional mini games are accessible, such as a highway surfing challenge and a car bomb guessing game. The floppy disk version of the game does not include voice acting for its dialogue.
