Ruins of Cawdor is a fantasy role-playing game released in 1995 for MS-DOS. It was developed and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc. This title represents the third installment in a series of graphical multi-user dungeon games originally offered through Sierra's online service, The Sierra Network. It utilizes the same game engine as its predecessors, Shadows of Yserbius and Fates of Twinion, but presents an original narrative inspired by William Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Players begin by creating a single character, choosing from several guilds such as thief, barbarian, cleric, knight, wizard, or ranger. The primary objective is to explore the six floors of Cawdor Castle, navigating its corridors from a first-person perspective. Progression involves overcoming numerous enemy encounters in tactical combat, solving environmental puzzles, and locating secret doors. A key aspect of gameplay is the discovery and collection of various magic items and equipment to strengthen the character.

The game's structure is built around dungeon crawling through interconnected rooms and levels. While it is possible to adventure alone, the design is oriented toward cooperative play, with the system supporting the formation of a party of up to four characters. This group-based approach facilitates tackling the challenges within the castle, which include strategic battles and exploration to uncover the secrets of the location. The experience is centered on methodical advancement through the castle's floors, managing resources, and utilizing the distinct abilities of the chosen character class.
