Rotor is a side-view flight and shooting game released in 1992 for MS-DOS. Developed by Systematics and published by Microdaft, it is set in a science fiction environment where players pilot a tank-like spacecraft. The game combines elements of maneuvering and combat within a series of labyrinthine fortresses.

The player controls a ship that can rotate freely and accelerate using an afterburner, navigating through tight corridors with physics reminiscent of early vector-based space games. The primary objective across eighteen different fortresses is to locate and collect all sun crystals to complete a mission. Scattered boxes contain various items: fuel to replenish a limited supply drained by shooting and moving, bombs that detonate after a short timer unless quickly avoided or collected for credits at the cost of increased weight, and pearls that advance an upgrade counter. Upgrades, which can be activated at any time, improve attributes like rotation speed, engine power, weapons, or shields. Boxes are opened by flying extremely close to them to activate a tractor beam.

In addition to navigating under gravitational effects and managing resources, players encounter stationary enemies that fire linear projectile patterns. Environmental hazards include attractors and repulsors that push the ship into walls, as well as force fields that must be disabled by finding and shooting a switch. The game emphasizes careful tactics and precise control, as fuel is scarce and reckless flying or shooting can quickly deplete it. Progression requires methodical exploration to identify traps and manage the weight and upgrade systems effectively.
