Rise of the Dragon is a first-person adventure game released in 1990 for MS-DOS. Developed by Dynamix, Inc. and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc., the game is set in a cyberpunk version of Los Angeles in the year 2053. Players assume the role of William "Blade" Hunter, a former police officer turned private detective, who is hired to investigate the brutal murder of the mayor's daughter.

The gameplay primarily involves navigating static scenes from a first-person perspective, searching for clues and interacting with characters to advance the narrative. A central mechanic is an internal game clock, requiring players to plan Hunter's movements and appointments carefully to be at specific locations at correct times. Progression is heavily dependent on dialogue trees with multiple choices, where incorrect selections can lead directly to failure and end the adventure. The investigation gradually reveals a broader conspiracy connected to a dangerous new drug and a powerful criminal organization.

In addition to the point-and-click adventure sequences, the game includes two side-scrolling action segments. These sections can be attempted repeatedly, and failing them multiple times in succession allows the player to bypass them without penalty in the original MS-DOS release. The later Sega CD version of the game features full voice acting for dialogue, uses a distinct color palette with a greenish tint, and removes the option to skip these action sequences after repeated failures.
