Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession is a role-playing game released for MS-DOS in 1994. Developed by DreamForge Intertainment and published by Strategic Simulations, Inc., it is a licensed title based on the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. The game presents its three-dimensional environments from a first-person perspective and features real-time gameplay mechanics.

The player controls a party of adventurers, beginning with two characters. These can be either predefined or custom-created by selecting from standard AD&D races such as human, elf, and dwarf, and classes like fighter and cleric. The primary objective stems from a quest given by Lord Dhelt of Elturel, who tasks the party with retrieving a stolen magical amulet known as the Holy Symbol of Helm. After accomplishing this initial goal, the group is unexpectedly transported to a strange and hostile region, blocked from returning by a poisonous mist. The gameplay then focuses on exploring this new environment and unraveling the mystery behind the amulet and their location. The party can grow to a maximum of four members as new characters are encountered during the journey.

Movement through the game world is continuous, controlled either with keyboard arrow keys or by directing the mouse. Combat occurs in real time, requiring players to manage their party's actions dynamically during encounters. Progression is driven by exploration of the interconnected areas, interacting with the world, and completing objectives that advance the central narrative. The systems for character creation, real-time party management, and environmental interaction form the core of the gameplay experience.
