About Rally Sport

Rally Sport is a racing game released for MS-DOS in 1996. It is presented from a third-person perspective behind the player's vehicle. The game features a selection of eight cars, which consist of three distinct vehicle models available in different color schemes. Players race across a total of fifteen tracks set in various environments, including grassy mountains, gravel paths, and icy terrain.

Players control one of the available cars with the objective of completing laps or races in the fastest time. The game world allows for off-road driving, though venturing off the designated track significantly reduces speed. Tracks contain environmental hazards such as deep water, slippery ice patches, and static obstacles. Colliding with deep water or flipping the vehicle results in the car being reset onto the track, costing time. The ice physics are distinct, with snow generating large plumes behind the car and surfaces providing reduced traction. Non-player characters, presented as spectators, are placed along the tracks and can be driven over, which triggers audio reactions.

The game offers several modes, including a single-player practice session without opponents and races against computer-controlled drivers. For multiplayer, two players can compete using either a split-screen or a single-screen format. In split-screen, both players race simultaneously to achieve the best lap time. In the single-screen mode, players share the view and score points by racing far enough ahead to push the other player's car off the screen. Rally Sport utilizes a fixed keyboard control scheme that cannot be reconfigured. For a single player, steering is assigned to the comma and period keys, while acceleration and braking are mapped to A and Z. In a two-player setup, the second player uses the numeric keypad, with keys 4 and 1 for acceleration and braking and keys 2 and 3 for steering.
