Play Ragnarok Online

Ragnarok is a role-playing game released in 1992 for the MS-DOS platform. It was developed by Norsehelm Production and published by Optyk. The game presents a top-down perspective and is set in the year 999 A.D., where a young Viking protagonist seeks to confront the prophecy of Ragnarok, the foretold end of the world in Norse mythology.

Players control this Viking character, undertaking various quests with the goal of altering or delaying the apocalyptic events. Progression is structured around completing these objectives, which are detailed through in-game options and hints. The world is divided into three main realms, each with distinct terrain and monsters, alongside five minor planes and other extradimensional areas. Exploration across these varied environments is a central activity, with the layout of shops and available items regenerating uniquely with each new playthrough.

The game features a class system with six initial options, but these are not permanent selections. Upon reaching every tenth level, a character may switch to a different class to access new skills and powers, as most class abilities are fully realized by that point. While each class has primary skills, certain magical items or in-game events can grant a character temporary or permanent abilities outside their chosen class. This system, combined with the shifting world and quest structure, supports repeated play with different strategic approaches.
