Race! is a top-down arcade racing game released for MS-DOS in 1989. The game presents a straightforward racing format where players compete against computer-controlled opponents or other human players on the same keyboard across a selection of twenty distinct levels.

Players control a single car from a top-down perspective, with the primary objective being to finish each race ahead of all other competitors. The game's structure involves selecting individual tracks to race on, each populated with various environmental obstacles that must be navigated. Core gameplay systems include managing vehicle handling around these hazards and competing in direct races against opponents. Performance during a race directly influences vehicle statistics; successful driving improves the player's car speed, traction, and acceleration for subsequent events. A secondary mechanic involves a rescue helicopter, whose response time speeds up based on the player's overall performance, arriving more quickly to reset the car after a crash.
