About Quarky & Quaysoo’s Turbo Science
Quarky & Quaysoo’s Turbo Science is an educational game released in 1992 for MS-DOS. Developed by Jeff Tunnell Productions and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc., it combines puzzle elements with science education, presented from a first-person perspective. The game is structured as a race where the player teams up with one of the Los Turbos characters.
Players navigate an overworld map representing various locations, such as a clown college, a rock concert, and a construction site, with the objective of reaching the finish line first. Each location focuses on a specific scientific concept, like chemistry or sound, and presents the player with a set of measurement tools including a ruler, light meter, beaker, and volt meter. By interacting with the environment to gather data, players answer science-based questions to earn in-game currency. This money is then used to purchase transportation, ranging from a bicycle to a helicopter, allowing for strategic choices between answering more questions for faster travel or moving on foot to save time.
The game's progression involves racing against computer-controlled opponents who move at different speeds based on the selected difficulty. Not all locations are visited in a single playthrough, providing varied scenarios across multiple sessions. After completing a race, players are shown a post-race interview segment featuring the television personality Paco de Suave, concluding the gameplay cycle.
