About Powerdrome

Powerdrome is a science fiction racing game released in 1990 for the MS-DOS platform. It was published by Electronic Arts, Inc. The game presents a futuristic setting where players pilot high-speed vehicles across alien landscapes from a first-person perspective.

The player controls a single racing craft, competing against five computer-controlled opponents in a one-player mode. The game features six distinct circuits, each with environmental hazards such as tight chicanes, tunnels, and moving crusher gates. Visual shading on the track surface provides advance warning of upcoming corners and steep dives. Progression is structured around completing these races. Key gameplay systems involve managing the vehicle's environmental filters, which must be adjusted for the unique atmospheric conditions of each planet, and utilizing an afterburner for temporary speed boosts, though this system can overheat if used excessively. On some circuits, weather conditions like rain require the player to make a pit stop to change equipment.

The game includes a two-player mode facilitated by a data link cable. Vehicle handling is a central mechanic, with the Amiga version offering adjustable control sensitivity. While the joystick is noted for easier control, the mouse is described as allowing potentially higher precision. The primary objective is to navigate the hazardous tracks and finish ahead of all opponents to win each race.
