About Polda
Polda, originally released in 1998 for MS-DOS, is a point-and-click adventure game developed by SleepTeam Ltd and published by ZIMA software. It is a detective and mystery title presented from a third-person perspective. The game is set in the village of Lupany, where the sudden disappearance of two citizens prompts an investigation led by the local police officer, Pankrác.
Players control Officer Pankrác across a three-day investigation, navigating environments and interacting with characters through a traditional point-and-click interface. The core gameplay involves collecting items, solving puzzles, and engaging in dialogues to uncover clues related to the kidnappings. A notable mechanic involves the protagonist's occasional outbursts of rage, during which his actions become less predictable, adding a layer of complexity to puzzle-solving and progression. The narrative structure advances day by day, with the player's discoveries gradually revealing connections to the officer's personal history.
The game features full voice acting performed by several notable Czech actors and was initially rated for adult audiences. Its full Czech title, "Polda aneb S poctivostí nejdřív pojdeš," is a play on a local saying regarding honesty. The adventure incorporates a cast of eccentric characters and unfolds with a tone that blends mystery with unconventional humor.
