Player Manager 2 is a business simulation and football management game released for MS-DOS in 1995. Developed and published by Anco Software Ltd., the title combines managerial duties with on-pitch action, placing the user in the dual role of a footballer and a manager for a lower-division club. The primary objective is to guide the team through the divisions to reach the Premier League and then maintain its status there.

Players control their custom footballer, who also serves as the team's manager, overseeing all aspects of the club. Core management systems include setting pre-match tactics, engaging in a full transfer market with loan options, monitoring detailed player statistics presented through visual charts, and managing ground improvements and coaching staff. Progression is structured around seasonal league and cup competitions, with the long-term goal of promotion and financial stability. The player-character is initially the squad's most capable member, requiring strategic decisions about his position and usage during matches to maximize performance.

Match participation is a flexible component of gameplay. Users can choose to actively control their player or the entire team during fixtures, with four different viewing perspectives available, or opt to simulate and watch the results. A noted mechanic involves the player-manager's eventual retirement from playing; after reaching a certain age, active participation is limited to three out of every four seasons, a restriction communicated within the game. Before each match, a video report featuring pundit Alan Hansen provides analysis alongside form notes attributed to him, adding a layer of media presentation to the routine.
