About Paku Paku
Paku Paku is a puzzle solving game released in 2011 for MS-DOS systems. It was developed and published by Paladin Systems North. The game presents a top down perspective and is designed to be compatible with a wide range of early PC hardware, including the original IBM PC and compatible machines.
Players control a character navigating a maze, with the primary objective being to clear the playfield of all dots. Four ghosts patrol the maze, and the player must avoid contact with them to survive. Scattered among the dots are special power pills; collecting these temporarily reverses the dynamic, allowing the player to hunt the ghosts for bonus points. Occasional fruit bonuses also appear in the maze, providing additional scoring opportunities. The game's mechanics, including ghost behaviors and movement patterns, are adapted for its specific graphical grid while maintaining the core structure of its arcade inspiration.
The game was distributed as freeware, with its source code written in Turbo Pascal and assembly language also being made publicly available. This technical approach allowed the game to function within the constraints of early personal computer systems while preserving the fundamental maze clearing and evasion gameplay.
