Pac-Man is an arcade game originally released in 1983 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed and published by Namco Limited, the game presents a top-down view of a maze. The player controls the titular character, a circular figure, with the objective of navigating through this maze.

The player guides Pac-Man through a series of identical maze layouts, consuming all of the small dots scattered along the pathways. Four distinct ghosts, each with unique movement patterns, patrol the maze with the goal of intercepting Pac-Man. Contact with a ghost results in the loss of a life, and the game ends when all lives are depleted. To temporarily gain an advantage, Pac-Man can eat one of four larger power pellets, known as Energizers, located in the corners of the maze. This causes the ghosts to turn blue and become vulnerable, allowing Pac-Man to eat them for additional points before they regenerate and resume their pursuit. The game progresses through successive rounds, or levels, with brief animated sequences appearing between some of these stages.
