Operation Wolf is an arcade-style rail shooter released in 1989 for MS-DOS computers. Developed and published by Taito Corporation, the game is presented from a first-person perspective and casts the player as a special forces operative tasked with a prisoner rescue mission. The gameplay involves progressing through a series of linear levels, confronting waves of enemy forces.

Players control a crosshair on screen, using it to aim and fire at all hostile targets that appear. The primary weapon is a machine gun with limited ammunition, and a secondary grenade launcher is available for dealing with heavily armored vehicles and aircraft. Additional ammunition, grenades, and health items can be acquired by shooting them as they appear in the environment. The core challenge involves managing these resources while reacting to constant enemy assaults from soldiers, ninjas, patrol boats, and helicopters, some of whom throw projectiles that can be shot out of the air.

Progression is structured through distinct missions, each culminating in a boss encounter that requires identifying and attacking a specific weak point. The game world includes non-combatant civilians, though engaging them provides no tactical advantage. The experience is defined by its fast pace and the constant need for accurate shooting under heavy fire from numerous enemy types, each with different behaviors and durability.
