About Operation: Frog
Operation Frog is an educational simulation game released in 1992 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed by Interactive Picture Systems Inc. and published by Hi-Tech Expressions, Inc., the software presents a top-down view of a frog's anatomy for interactive study. The title falls within the ecology, nature, and science genres, providing a virtual environment for biological exploration.
Players engage with the frog's internal systems through two primary modes: Dissect and Reconstruct. In Dissect mode, the objective is to methodically open the frog's body and extract its various organs using a set of provided tools. The Reconstruct mode tasks the player with correctly returning all the organs to their proper locations within the body cavity. Progression is structured around these two distinct activities, with the game offering a save function to record progress. Players can select either a male or female frog model from the References section before beginning.
The core gameplay involves utilizing a suite of virtual instruments, each with a specific function. Scissors are used for cutting and removal in Dissect mode, while tweezers allow for the precise movement of organs in both modes. A probe offers contextual hints, indicating where to cut during dissection or suggesting the next organ to place during reconstruction. A magnifying glass provides detailed informational text about any selected organ. This information is also accessible at any time through a separate Frog File Index, and an OptiFrog section displays a reference diagram of the organ arrangement. The tools and systems are designed to facilitate a structured examination of biological components.
