Number Munchers is an educational video game released in 1986 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed and published by MECC, it combines math and logic problems with puzzle elements. The game presents a top-down view of a grid-based playing field where players engage with arithmetic concepts.

Players control a green character called the Muncher, navigating it across a board filled with numbers. The primary objective is to eat all the numbers that correctly answer a given math problem, such as identifying multiples, factors, prime numbers, or satisfying equalities and inequalities. Progression to the next stage requires consuming every correct answer on the board. The game grants players a set number of lives at the start; eating an incorrect number results in the loss of one life. Movement and strategic positioning are central as players must avoid hostile creatures called Troggles that roam the board and alter the numbers.

Gameplay involves managing these persistent threats while solving equations. Troggles move independently, changing the values on the grid as they pass over them, which can remove potential answers or create hazards. Occasionally, safe zones appear as white squares on the board, offering temporary refuge since Troggles cannot enter them. The game does not have a defined ending but instead increases in difficulty by introducing more numerous and faster enemies over time. Play continues until all lives are lost, with high scores potentially earning a place on the game's hall of fame list.
