About Normality
Normality is a first-person adventure game released for MS-DOS. Developed by Gremlin Interactive and published by Interplay Entertainment, the game presents a three-dimensional world with a cartoon-like visual style. Players assume the role of Kent Knutson, a teenager living in the controlled city of Neutropolis.
The game begins with Kent's arrest by the city's police, known as the Norms, for the minor infraction of whistling a happy tune. While imprisoned, he receives a note informing him of a resistance group operating within the city. The primary objective is to escape confinement and locate this underground movement to challenge the authoritarian regime. Progression is achieved by exploring various locations, interacting with characters, and solving environmental puzzles.
Gameplay revolves around traditional adventure mechanics, focusing on the collection and use of items. Players examine the three-dimensional environments from a first-person perspective, picking up objects to add to an inventory. These items are then combined or used on elements in the world to overcome obstacles and advance the narrative. The structure involves navigating through different areas of the city, with puzzles serving as the main barrier to uncovering the story and locating the resistance.
