Metal Sonic Hyperdrive (beta 2) Game

Metal Sonic Hyperdrive (Beta 2) is one of those weird, lost Sega Genesis prototypes that somehow made it online—and honestly? It’s a blast. You play as Metal Sonic, but he’s way faster than usual, almost slippery to control at first. The levels are these half-finished, glitchy zones with weird geometry, but that just adds to the charm. There’s a janky momentum system where if you time your jumps right, you can basically skim across entire sections like a ricocheting bullet.
No idea why Sega shelved this, but it feels like someone took the best parts of Sonic 2’s speed and cranked it up to 11. The music’s rough, the sprites flicker, and sometimes you clip through walls—but when it works, it’s pure Genesis chaos. If you’re into obscure Sonic rom hacks or beta builds, this is a weird little time capsule.
