About Metal Sonic 3 & Knuckles (beta)
Metal Sonic 3 & Knuckles (Beta) was a prototype build for the Sega Genesis, developed by Sega. It represents an unfinished version of the game that would eventually become Sonic & Knuckles, existing as a curious piece of the platform's history from the early 1990s.
You control Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles, navigating side scrolling levels filled with loops, ramps, and enemy robots. The main goal is to reach the end of each stage while collecting rings and destroying Dr. Robotnik's machinery. Signature mechanics include the ability to perform the spin dash for a burst of speed and, in later stages, using Knuckles' gliding and climbing to access new paths. The pacing is fast, demanding quick reflexes to avoid spikes and bottomless pits, and the difficulty can be punishing if you miss a jump. Playing it feels like a raw, unpolished glimpse into how a classic was almost built.
