Lemmings 2: The Tribes is a puzzle-platform game released in 1993 for MS-DOS. Developed by DMA Design and published by Psygnosis, the game presents a side-view perspective and unfolds in real time. Its narrative centers on twelve distinct Lemming tribes, each with a unique cultural theme such as Egyptian, Circus, and Highland, who must reunite to save their island.

Players guide groups of Lemmings through 120 levels, assigning specific skills to individual creatures to navigate environmental hazards and reach an exit. Each tribe has ten levels to complete, and the primary objective is to save as many Lemmings as possible in each stage. The game introduces over sixty skills, though only a subset is available per level. These include various movement abilities like pole-vaulting and skating, along with terrain-altering actions such as diagonal digging, horizontal bashing, and methods to raise the landscape. Progression involves solving the spatial and timing puzzles presented by each level's layout and the skills allotted.

The structure allows players to switch between the twelve tribes at any point. Performance is graded with bronze, silver, and gold medals based on the number of Lemmings saved, with a perfect save across all a tribe's levels earning the gold award. The game saves progress automatically, and players can revisit completed levels to improve their scores. Four dedicated training levels are provided for experimenting with different skill combinations without the pressure of a main puzzle.
