Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos is a real-time dungeon crawler role-playing game released in 1993 for MS-DOS. Developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Games, it presents a fantasy narrative from a first-person perspective. The story follows a group of heroes who must seek a cure for King Richard after he is poisoned by the shape-shifting sorceress Scotia, leader of the Dark Army.

Players begin by selecting one of four protagonists, each with distinct attributes: the magic-focused Dracoid Ak'shel, the swift Huline Kieran, the strong human Michael, or the balanced human Conrad. The core activity involves navigating pseudo-3D, maze-like dungeons in a party of up to three characters. Exploration is central, with players uncovering secret areas and solving environmental puzzles to progress. Combat occurs in real time, managed through a point-and-click interface where players select attack or magic icons for each party member, with actions governed by individual speed stats that impose a cooldown period. The interface also allows interaction with objects in the environment, often triggering dialogue from the characters.

Character progression uses a semi-automatic system where skills improve through use, divided into the categories of Fighting, Magic, and Rogue. Employing melee attacks raises Fighting, casting spells improves Magic, and using ranged weapons enhances Rogue skills. Players can equip party members with various weapons and armor using a paper doll inventory screen. The CD release of the game features full voice acting for its dialogue.
