Players control a young boy named Lathan Kandor, whose objective is to defeat the antagonist known as the Black Wizard. To achieve this, Lathan is guided by his mentor, the magician Daelon, and must journey across the fantasy setting of the Far Reaches. A primary goal involves locating and retrieving three out of the five fragments of an ancient artifact called The Hand of Mobus. Progression is driven by interacting with various characters found throughout the world and collecting numerous objects.

The gameplay involves navigating environments, solving adventure-style problems, and completing puzzles. Interaction is managed through mouse controls, and the game includes an in-game travel map to facilitate movement between areas. It features cartoon-like graphics and video animations, accompanied by an original musical score that players have the option to disable.
