About Jetpack
Jetpack is a side-view arcade platformer with puzzle and shooter elements, released for MS-DOS in 1993. It was developed by Adept Software. The player assumes the role of an explorer navigating a series of small dungeons with the primary objective of collecting green gems.
The player controls the explorer, who is equipped with a jetpack for movement and a tool described as an electric tazer or phaser. The jetpack consumes fuel, which must be collected from single or double tanks and fuel grids scattered throughout the levels to maintain flight. The tool can cut through specific materials to clear paths and solve environmental puzzles, but it cannot damage enemies. Progression involves completing over one hundred individual levels, each presenting obstacles such as jagged rocks, force fields, teleport pads, and indestructible bricks. Environmental hazards like ice and grass can impede movement, while items like enemy freezers and invulnerability power-ups can be collected to aid progress. The game also incorporates ladders and teleporters for navigation.
The registered version includes one hundred pre-built levels. A level editor is provided, allowing for the creation of custom stages, and numerous user-made levels have been published on the developer's website. The developers also released a hint book featuring screenshots and brief advice for each official level.
