About Hook (dos)
Hook is a graphic adventure game released in 1992 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed by Shadow Software and published by Ocean Software Ltd., it is a licensed title based on the film of the same name. The game is presented from a side view perspective and incorporates puzzle elements into its point and click adventure framework.
The player controls Peter Banning, a man who discovers he is the grown-up version of Peter Pan. After the villain Captain Hook kidnaps his children, Peter must journey back to the magical world of Neverland to rescue them. Gameplay involves navigating various screen based environments and interacting with characters and objects. The interface uses a row of icons at the bottom of the screen to determine the action performed with a mouse click, such as looking at items, picking them up, conversing with characters, or using inventory objects.
Progression is structured around solving environmental puzzles, often by combining collected items or using them on specific parts of the scenery. The player explores different locations within Neverland, talks to its inhabitants to gather information, and manages an inventory of objects to overcome obstacles. The core gameplay loop consists of exploration, dialogue, and logical item based puzzle solving to advance the story and ultimately confront Captain Hook.
