Ever wanted to play Sonic but as a fox? Frayda the Fox is a fun little hack of Sonic 1 that swaps the blue blur for a speedy fox with her own animations and slightly tweaked physics. She’s got this cool little tail flick when she jumps, and the sprites actually look pretty clean for a ROM hack.

It’s just a demo, so don’t expect a full game—Green Hill Zone is all you get, but it’s neat seeing how the level plays with Frayda’s movement. She feels a tiny bit heavier than Sonic, which makes some jumps trickier than you’d expect. Still, if you’ve burned through Sonic 1 a hundred times, this is a fun way to mix it up for a few minutes.

Definitely one of the better Sonic hacks if you’re into character swaps.
