About Duke: Nuclear Winter
Duke: Nuclear Winter is an official expansion pack for the first-person shooter Duke Nukem 3D, released in 1997 for MS-DOS. It was developed by Simply Silly Software and published by the WizardWorks Group, Inc. This add-on introduces a new holiday-themed campaign set in the arctic, expanding the base game with additional environments and enemies.
The player assumes the role of Duke Nukem, who receives a distress call stating that aliens have invaded the North Pole and captured Santa Claus. The objective is to travel through seven new maps, eliminate the alien forces, and ultimately rescue Santa to save Christmas. Gameplay retains the core first-person shooting mechanics of the original, with players navigating maze-like levels, collecting weapons and items, and engaging in combat against both familiar foes and new arctic-themed monsters specifically designed for this expansion.
Progression is structured around completing each of the new levels in sequence, which feature wintery settings and corresponding graphical artwork. The expansion integrates seamlessly with the existing game systems, focusing on exploration, key card puzzles, and intense firefights. Players will encounter environmental hazards and the new enemy variants as they advance through the campaign, maintaining the fast-paced action and interactive elements characteristic of the series.
