Doom II: Hell on Earth is a first-person shooter released in 1994 for MS-DOS. Developed by id Software and published by GT Interactive Software Corp., the game is a direct sequel to the original Doom, continuing its science fiction and horror themes. Players resume the role of a space marine, now returning to an Earth overrun by demonic forces.

The player controls the marine from a first-person perspective, navigating through a series of interconnected three-dimensional levels. The primary objective is to fight through demonic hordes to deactivate a force field surrounding Earth's last functional starport, enabling human survivors to escape. Progression involves exploring labyrinthine environments, locating colored keycards to unlock doors, and activating switches to open new pathways. The core gameplay loop consists of movement, resource management for health and ammunition, and combat against a variety of enemies.

The game expands upon its predecessor with new elements, including a super shotgun added to the player's arsenal. Several new enemy types are introduced, such as the Heavy Weapon Dude armed with a chaingun, the Revenant which fires homing missiles, and the Arch-Vile capable of a powerful flame attack. Unlike the first game's structure of three distinct episodes, Doom II presents its campaign as one continuous sequence of thirty levels, with two additional secret levels to discover. The presentation utilizes the same graphical engine, rendering three-dimensional spaces with two-dimensional sprite-based characters and enemies.
