About Dick Tracy (dos)
Dick Tracy is a side scrolling action game released in 1990 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed and published by Titus France SA, it is a licensed title based on the 1990 film adaptation of the comic strip. The game is structured as a shooter where the player controls the detective Dick Tracy across five distinct stages.
Players navigate Tracy through a city using his yellow car, moving across a grid-like map to reach specific locations. This driving segment involves avoiding hostile drivers and rooftop snipers. Upon arriving at a destination, Tracy exits the vehicle to enter buildings, shifting the gameplay to a side scrolling perspective. Inside, players engage in combat, using punches and an assortment of weapons to defeat armed gangsters while avoiding harm to unarmed civilians. Progression requires collecting clues within each stage, which ultimately lead to confrontations with mob bosses. The game is divided into five cases, each solved by gathering all related clues and arresting the corresponding suspect.
The game structure does not provide extra lives or continue options. A password system, accessed via a three digit code on the title screen, allows players to resume progress. The primary gameplay loop alternates between driving across the city map and engaging in side scrolling combat and exploration within buildings to advance the narrative and complete each case.
