About Diamond Digger
Diamond Digger is a side-view arcade game released for MS-DOS in 1986. It was developed by Apogee Software, Ltd. and published by Keypunch Software, Inc. In the game, players take on the role of a treasure hunter exploring a deep, abandoned mine.
The player controls a character who must navigate a series of underground levels. The primary objective is to descend deeper into the mine by reaching the shaft to the next level. To unlock this exit, the player must first locate and collect a key on each stage. Movement involves traveling through existing passageways, but players can also dig new tunnels through the earth, a process that is slower than moving through open spaces. Throughout each level, the player collects points by gathering scattered diamonds and other treasures.
A central hazard is a hostile ghost that patrols the mine. Contact with this enemy results in the immediate loss of a life, requiring the player to constantly monitor its movements while pursuing objectives. The gameplay loop involves a balance of exploration for the key and treasures, strategic digging to create paths or avoid the ghost, and careful timing to safely descend to progressively deeper and more complex levels.
