About Crime City
Crime City is a horizontal action game released in 1989 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed and published by Taito Corporation, it is a shoot 'em up title that incorporates detective, mystery, and puzzle elements. The game presents its action from a behind-the-view perspective and supports play for one or two participants.
Players control a police officer whose objective is to locate and arrest the leaders of criminal gangs across six distinct stages. Each stage is divided into multiple scenes filled with environmental objects that provide cover from enemy attacks. Progression involves navigating these areas, disarming criminals who obstruct the path, and ultimately confronting the gang leader at the stage's conclusion. Gameplay systems include using a variety of character moves, collecting different weapons found throughout the environments, and utilizing power-ups that aid in overcoming adversaries.
The structure presents each of the six levels as a separate miniature narrative that contributes to the overarching mission. The player's central task remains consistent: to find and apprehend each gang leader to complete the objective. This straightforward premise drives the action forward as the officer moves through the staged urban environments, engaging with the criminal elements present in each location.
