Commander Keen 5: The Armageddon Machine is a side-view platform game released for MS-DOS in 1991. Developed by id Software and published by Apogee Software, it is the fifth title in the Commander Keen series and the second installment of the Goodbye, Galaxy story arc. The game follows the young protagonist Billy Blaze, also known as Commander Keen, on a science fiction mission.

Players control Commander Keen as he infiltrates the alien Shikadi starship, the Omegamatic, with the objective of destroying its core to prevent a galactic catastrophe. Progression is structured around a top-down map of the ship which serves as a level selection screen; from here, the player chooses individual stages to enter. Within each stage, the primary goal is to navigate to an exit, with specific levels requiring the destruction of one of four protective machines guarding the ship's main elevator. The game world is populated by robotic enemies and environmental hazards such as pits, with contact resulting in the loss of a life.

Gameplay involves navigating platforming challenges while utilizing a raygun to stun most adversaries and a pogo stick for enhanced jumping ability. Exploration and item collection are central systems, as players gather ammunition for the raygun, gems, and keycards to unlock doors. Additional collectibles include bonus items that increase the player's score and jars of Vitalin, where collecting one hundred grants an extra life. A rare Keg O' Vitalin item also provides an immediate life extension upon collection.
