About Championship Manager 93-94
Championship Manager 93/94 is a managerial soccer simulation game released in 1993 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed and published by Domark Software, Inc., it serves as the successor to the original Championship Manager. The game updates its database to reflect the real-world teams and players of the 1993-94 season, providing a text-based interface for managing a football club.
In the game, the player assumes the role of a football manager, taking control of a club from one of four playable English divisions, ranging from the First Division to the Fourth. The primary objective is to guide the team through a full season, handling domestic league matches and various cup competitions, including major European trophies. Core gameplay systems involve squad management, where the player organizes first-team and reserve squads, and oversees player transfers, including those involving international players. A key tactical element is the match engine, which presents textual match commentary and provides performance information, such as the occurrence of injury time.
Progression is structured around the football calendar, with the manager making decisions on training, team selection, and tactics week by week. A notable feature introduced in this installment is the player rating system, which assigns a performance grade from 0 to 10 after each match and calculates a season-long average to help assess player form. While the game includes real player names for teams within the four main English divisions, clubs outside this structure, including all foreign teams, feature generic players identified only by their position numbers. The simulation encompasses the major domestic cups of the era and allows for European competition, though the league structures are simplified, with each division containing 20 teams instead of the real-life 22 or 24.
