Bust-a-Move is a tile matching puzzle game released in 1997 for the MS-DOS platform. The game presents a side view perspective where players interact with a field of colored bubbles. It belongs to the real-time arcade and puzzle solving genres, featuring mechanics centered on color matching under time pressure.

In the game, the player controls a cannon fixed at the bottom of the screen. This cannon fires bubbles of varying colors upward into a clustered play area. The primary objective is to aim and shoot these bubbles so they attach to groups of the same color. When three or more bubbles of the same color connect, they pop and are removed from the screen. A key element is the constant descent of the ceiling, which gradually pushes the bubble mass downward. The game ends in failure if any bubbles reach the bottom line, and success is achieved by clearing the entire screen of bubbles before that happens.

The single player puzzle mode offers a sequence of 90 distinct levels to complete. A password system allows players to resume progress from their last completed stage. For competitive play, a versus mode is available against either a computer opponent with multiple difficulty settings or a second human player. This mode tasks players with clearing their own bubble field faster than their opponent or by causing the opponent's screen to fill. Clearing large groups sends additional bubbles to the opposing side. Additionally, an endless challenge mode provides a continuous test of skill where new bubbles are constantly added from the top of the screen instead of the ceiling descending. This mode has no conclusion and is played solely to achieve a high score.
