Bubble Bobble is a platform arcade game originally released in 1988 for the MS-DOS platform. Developed and published by Taito Corporation, the game presents a side view perspective. Players control one of two dinosaur characters, Bub or Bob, who are humans transformed by a magical cave.

In the game, players navigate through a series of single screen levels. The primary objective is to clear each stage of all enemies to progress to the next. Characters can jump and collect various items, such as fruit, which contribute to the score. A central gameplay mechanic involves blowing bubbles, which serve multiple functions. These bubbles can act as temporary platforms for reaching higher areas or be used to trap adversaries. Once an enemy is encased in a bubble, the player must pop it by jumping into it, which defeats the foe and often transforms it into a collectible item.

Special power ups occasionally appear on screen, contained within their own bubbles. These include abilities like a horizontal lightning attack and a water stream that affects both the player and enemies. The game features a time pressure element; if a player takes too long to complete a level, a persistent enemy named Baron Von Blubba appears and moves around the screen attempting to eliminate the player character. The game supports two player cooperative play, with each participant controlling one of the two main characters.
