About Brix
Brix is a falling block puzzle game released in 1991 for the MS-DOS platform. It was developed and published by Epic MegaGames, Inc. The game presents its puzzle elements in a side view perspective, focusing on real-time tile matching mechanics.
In the game, the player controls an array of colored pieces that can be shifted horizontally. The core objective is to clear all bricks marked with a specific geometric shape from the playfield. This is accomplished by moving pieces so that two or more of the same type make contact, causing them to disappear. The game operates under a time limit, requiring players to perform these matches quickly. A key gameplay system involves managing odd-numbered groups of a piece type; when only three of a kind remain, the player must arrange for them to touch simultaneously to be removed. Progression is structured across 112 distinct levels.
The game includes a level editor, allowing for the creation of custom puzzles. There are no adjustable difficulty settings, with the challenge inherent in the level design and the real-time pressure. The primary gameplay loop involves constant assessment of the tile layout, strategic horizontal movement to create matches, and efficient clearing of the designated target shapes before time expires.
