Battlehawks 1942 is a combat flight simulator released in 1988 for MS-DOS. Developed and published by Lucasfilm Games, it is a World War II themed aviation game that presents its action from a first person perspective. It is noted as the first title in a trilogy of World War II air combat simulations created by Lucasfilm in collaboration with designer Lawrence Holland.

In the game, the player assumes the role of a pilot participating in historical Pacific Theater battles. Each mission begins with a briefing that outlines the objectives. A notable feature allows players to experience these engagements from either the American or Japanese perspective, controlling period specific aircraft such as the Grumman F4F Wildcat or the Mitsubishi A6M Zero. The simulation includes a cockpit view with a limited instrument panel displaying information like airspeed, altitude, and fuel, along with controls for landing gear and flaps. Unlike many flight simulators of its time, the game forgoe standard takeoff and landing sequences, placing the player directly into combat scenarios.

Gameplay involves navigating and engaging enemy aircraft and ships across a series of missions. The title includes several realism settings that can be adjusted, such as options for invincibility, unlimited ammunition and fuel, and variable pilot difficulty for opposing forces. The simulation encompasses twelve different aircraft variants and approximately twenty types of ships. While its visual presentation uses a 16 color EGA palette typical of 1988 and supports sound hardware like the Adlib card, the game is also recognized for including extensive historical reference material alongside its software.
