Players control Barbie as she moves through scrolling levels, starting with a left-to-right journey. Periodically, a special camera item triggers a magazine cover shoot mini-game, where the player must visit a dressing room to assemble an outfit that matches a displayed theme, including adjusting the colors of three separate components for additional points.

Upon reaching the end of a level, a runway practice sequence begins, showing four marked positions that correspond to specific button presses. Barbie then travels back through the same environment from right to left, where collecting a handbag initiates another magazine cover challenge, this time focusing on matching hairstyle, earrings, eyeshadow, and lip and nail colors at a makeup mirror. Points are awarded for each correctly matched element. Finally, at the level's start point, the player must successfully execute the memorized runway walk sequence, earning points for each correctly performed move at the designated stations. Success allows progression through the four themed levels, which include settings such as a city street, a beach, a ski resort, and a park.
